MB 31RP
Moisture barrier for multivitamin and ferrous tablets
Solvent base barrier film for hygroscopic multivitamin and iron formulations.
Application
Solvent base moisture barrier film coat for Multivitamin and Ferrous group tablets. It protects the core from moisture pick-up and from the colour change that follows it on shelf.
Formulated for
- Multivitamins
- Ferrous group
How it runs
Multivitamin and ferrous cores are hygroscopic before they reach the coater, so the barrier film is carrying part of the shelf life. Watch colour on coated tablets through the first stability pulls, since colour drift is usually the first sign that the barrier is too thin.
Build-up and solids are fixed at trial.
The polymer
Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)
PVA films are less permeable to water vapour than HPMC at the same thickness, which is what makes a moisture barrier a barrier. Our moisture barrier grades are fully formulated HPMC and PVA based immediate release systems, so the protection does not come at the cost of release.

Common questions about MB 31RP
Which products is MB 31RP used on?
Multivitamin and Ferrous group tablets. Both are hygroscopic before they reach the coater, so the barrier film carries part of the shelf life rather than only improving appearance.
What is the first sign the barrier is too thin?
Colour drift on coated tablets through the early stability pulls. Watch colour before you watch assay.
