SFC101

Sugar film coat material

Non-aqueous sucrose based system for a sugar coated finish without a full sugar line.

Application

Non-aqueous sugar film coat that covers the tablet with a sucrose based solution and provides protection from light and moisture. It is fully formulated on HPMC, so a conventional or auto coater delivers the sugar coated appearance without the traditional multi stage sugar coating process.

How it runs

It is applied like a non-aqueous film coat rather than through the traditional sugar process, so a single pan and a single dispersion replace the syrup, dusting and polishing stages. That shortens the sugar coated finish from days to a single shift.

Build-up and solids are fixed at trial.

The polymer

Hypromellose (HPMC, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose)

HPMC is the workhorse of immediate release film coating. It forms a clear, tough film at low build-up, takes pigment well and does not delay release, which is why it underpins both the moisture barrier range and the sugar film coat.

Part of the Sugar Coating range.

Common questions about SFC101

Does SFC101 need a traditional sugar coating line?

No. It is applied like a non-aqueous film coat, so a single pan and a single dispersion replace the syrup, dusting and polishing stages. A conventional or auto coater is all that is required.

How long does a sugar coated finish take with it?

A single shift rather than the several days a traditional sugar process runs to, because the multi stage build-up is replaced by one film coating stage.
